Ready-Mix Concrete Offers Many Benefits for Farm Education Center

The Food + Farm Exploration Center is a multipurpose facility dedicated to educating current and future generations about agricultural innovation and sustainability. Located in the middle of a 24-acre working farm, the center offers immersive, multi-sensory activities and exhibits focused on food and production agriculture.

The center, which opened to the public in 2023, incorporated ready-mix concrete in a variety of outdoor applications including walkways, a loading dock, and a patio. Project leaders specified ready-mix to provide safe walking paths, enhance curb appeal, and offer long-lasting performance.

This project used concrete with an exposed aggregate finish in warm, nature-inspired tones as a decorative accent winding through the outdoor spaces. The warm tones of the decorative exposed aggregate visually connect the outdoor spaces to the surrounding landscape, which features natural areas accented by large boulders, perennial greenery, and colorful drainage gravel. Inside the center, polished concrete was used for interior floors to provide a durable, neutral canvas that contrasts with colorful murals.

County Ready Mix offers a wide variety of coloring and stamping options to bring any design to life. With proper installation and care, ready-mix concrete used in exterior applications can last for 30 years or more.

Project Highlights

County Ready Mix manufactured and delivered 3,000 cubic yards of concrete for this project. During construction, the contractor successfully managed windy conditions while installing the ready-mix. Installation began in October 2022, and the project opened in September 2023.
